Age of Sigmar Raffle Tourney at GR War Room

This past weekend I attended the Age of Sigmar “Raffle Tournament” at the Grand Rapids War Room.  It was a 1500 Modified Vanguard and 3 game rounds.  Tickets were awarded for W/L/D, and completing in-game fun tasks.  The player then had the option to allocate the tickets for drawings for a number of prizes.  After perusing the available prizes, the only thing I saw that I was interested in was some aelf miniature boxes. I didn’t really have an optimized army to participate with – I pretty much threw together an army of what models I had available.  My final…Continue reading Age of Sigmar Raffle Tourney at GR War Room

30K Painting Progress – Raven Guard

Lately I have been slowly plugging away at my 30K army.  I picked Raven Guard because I thought that their background and chapter tactics were cool.  They are the “black ops” chapter of the loyalist forces, using infiltration with an emphasis on infantry and fast units. The Raven Guard didn’t fare too well at the Michigan GT, losing nearly all of their matches, but I am going to try to remain optimistic about their possibilities. Since my choice, I have determined that I hate painting black armor, but now I’m committed.  A lot of the models are specialty units which…Continue reading 30K Painting Progress – Raven Guard

Age of Sigmar Trial Game

My local game store (AFK Games) had an Age of Sigmar newbie event for anyone who was interested in giving it a go.  I haven’t played Warhammer Fantasy in about 20 years, so it seemed like a good opportunity to try it out.  I packed up my square-based  Empire army and headed out to AFK to see if I could make an army out of the array of figures I had. My Empire Army consisted of a lot of old GW figures as well as stuff from the game BattleMasters.  Back in the days when I played WHFB, Empire was…Continue reading Age of Sigmar Trial Game

The 2016 Michigan GT

Another Michigan GT has come and gone, and what growth we have experienced!  When we started this event in 2013, it was attended by less than 60 people and we only had one game system. Fast forward to 2016, and we had: Over 300 attendees 11 game systems 750 individual rounds of games played $1252.00 raised for charity Needless to say, we have experienced a lot of growth!  2017 will probably shape up to be even bigger, and will probably be the limit of what our small group of volunteers can handle. We also had a record number of sponsors…Continue reading The 2016 Michigan GT

The Michigan GT is Almost Here!

Wow, I can’t believe it’s already been a month since my last update!  The Michigan GT will be upon us tomorrow, so the last month has been a frenzy of site updates, sponsors, getting people registered, etc.  This is going to be the biggest GT we have run so far with over 260 people signed up to play in our various events.  It’s been a lot of growth, very quickly. When we first started running the GT in 2013, we had less than 60 attendees and one event. My role in the GT is usually that of web developer and…Continue reading The Michigan GT is Almost Here!

Hobby Flashback – Looted Imperial Knight

This is one of the more fun projects I have done, a looted Imperial Knight! This project started out as an idea for some heavy hitting power for my Ork army.  I didn’t really like playing Orks since they did away with clans, but I was already deeply invested.  My solution was to play my Orks as Astra Militarum, or as I call them Blood Axe Boyz.  This solves two problems – it makes my Orks enjoyable to play again, and also gets rid of the alliance issues since both are now technically Imperium units. Eventually I would like to…Continue reading Hobby Flashback – Looted Imperial Knight

Adepticon Flashback: Grot Infantry Platoon

This was another fun project that was full of character!  My Grot Infantry Platoon was made up of products from Kromlech, Secret Weapon, and Games Workshop.  For the troopers I used the Soviet Goblin Attak Mob.  These guys are awesome, they have a lot of character in their faces, the uniforms are totally cool, and the castings were great! I decided to forego the use of special weapons in this squad as it was a static gunline and the bodies were just protection for the lascannons.  In retrospect, flamers may have been a good option for receiving charges and cheap.…Continue reading Adepticon Flashback: Grot Infantry Platoon

Adepticon flashback: Vendetta Gunship

I chose the Vendetta Gunship for its tankbusting abilities, and because it’s just a cool model.  Unfortunately, the only way to get the parts to convert it is from Forge World which also comes with a minimum order of £250 to get free shipping.  So off to look at third party vendors to see what I can find! I ended up getting the lascannons for under the wings from puppetswar, and a pair of sentinel cannons from eBay for the nose, which came to less than the Forge World kit, even with shipping. As with most of my models in this army,…Continue reading Adepticon flashback: Vendetta Gunship

Adepticon flashback: Rough Riders

My last progress post was about my Blood Axe Rough Riders unit.  This was a unit for bonus points in the friendly tourney; it’s a pity that they aren’t as good on the table as they look.  My initial design had a spear tip, but I decided to model it to bring it in line with the description in the codex.  The rough riders are equipped with explosive lances which detonate when the unit initially strikes.  I took some brass tubing and cut it to length, then took an ork stikkbomb and wrapped it in wire against the tubing.  I…Continue reading Adepticon flashback: Rough Riders

Time Flies….

Wow, it’s been almost a year since I added anything to this blog.  Well, let’s do the condensed version for the year… I ended up finishing my Blood Axe army a few days before Adepticon and played in the 40K friendly.  Unfortunately, my army was way too friendly and ended up getting stomped on – A LOT.  🙂 I did manage to tie one game and got several compliments on how my army looked.  Next year I will have something a little more competitive but not over the top! Also, the Michigan GT is coming up in 6 weeks, if…Continue reading Time Flies….
